Beef broccoli recipe
This beef broccoli recipe is quick, easy and excellent. It's another one of those recipes I used to make often when I was going through midterm or exam season and I didn't have much time.
This beef broccoli recipe is not bland but not strong tasting either. It does satisfy some people's palate, but if you enjoy strong tasting steak, add some spices as you're frying the steak or buy some pepper steak.

Total time: 35 min
Ingredients (2 servings):
beef steak (300g to 500g)
3 to 4 cups of frozen broccoli
1/2 cup of green onions
1 clove garlic
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon roast beef gravy mix (optional)
1 tablespoon corn starch
1 and 1/2 to 2 cups of uncooked rice
Part 1 (5 min)
Defrost steak (1). Measure out the rice (2). Put some water in the pot (3) and wash it by stirring with your hands (4). Decant the wash water (5) and add appropriate amount of water (I usually add 3/4 cup of water for 1 cup of rice, but check your rice cooker manual). Set the rice to cook (6).
Part 2 (15 min)
Pour olive oil in the frying pan (1) and start the stove on low heat (2). Chop the green onions and dice the garlic (3). The steak should be done defrosting, take it out of the microwave. Put the frozen broccoli in a large bowl with 1 cup of water and heat it in the microwave for 4 min (4). Cut the steak in cubes or slices (5) and transfer them to a large bowl. Once the broccoli is warmed up, chop it in smaller pieces if you deem necessary (6).
Part 3 (15 min)
Add the steak to the frying pan (1) and start to cook it on medium heat (2). While the steak is cooking, mix the 1 tablespoon of cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of roast beef gravy mix (optional) with 3 tablespoons of water in a teacup (3). After about 5 min into cooking the steak, add the broccoli, green onions, garlic, sugar, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Stir constantly and keep cooking the contents of the frying pan (4). After the steak has been cooked for about 15 min, add the cornstarch/gravy mixture from the teacup (5). Stir it in well for about 1 min (6).
Serve with rice, soy sauce, salt and pepper.
