Fried calamari recipe

Are you wanting some seafood stir fry tonight but don't know what to make? Try this stir fried calamari recipe.

Calamari is also known as squid. The two words are exchangeable but calamari is often used in restaurants because it sounds better than squid.

It's a time saver to start with the calamari that's been pre-sliced into rings, but you don't have to. You can always just slice the squid in rings yourself if can't find any packages of pre-sliced.

Total time: 1 h

Ingredients (4 servings):

frozen calamari or squid rings (about 350 g)
1 small red pepper
1 carrot
2 stalks of celery
3-4 bunches of cauliflower
2 cloves garlic
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
1/3 cup chicken broth
olive oil


Preparation stage 30 min before starting the fried calamari recipe: (1) leave the calamari rings in a bowl at room temperature to unthaw.

Part 1 (20 min)
Add warm water to the frozen calamari rings and drain the water (1). Slice the red pepper (2). Peel and slice the carrot (3). Slice the celery (4) and the cauliflower (5). Place all the ingredients in a bowl or on a large plate (6).

Part 2 (20 min)
Dice the 2 cloves of garlic (1). Add some oil in the frying pan and turn the stove to high heat (2). Add half of the garlic to the frying pan (3). Add the calamari rings (4). Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar (5). Cook the calamari rings for 10 min (6). Transfer them into a large bowl.

Part 3 (20 min)
Using the same frying pan, add the remaining garlic (1). Add the carrots first and cook them for 2 min (2). Add the cauliflower and cook them for 2 min (3). Finally dump the rest of the vegetables (red pepper and celery) into the frying pan (4). Add 1/2 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of sugar (5). Measure out 1/3 cup of chicken broth and add it to the frying pan (6). Cook everything for 10 min (7). Add the cilantro (8) and cook for 2 more min (9).

Add some pepper and garnish with some cilantro. Serve on a plate. We usually eat this with rice and soy sauce.
